'What if your train of thought was an ACTUAL TRAIN?'

I'm a-testing my new icon.
New icon <3. I just wish I knew who made it...

Last night was the giant crazy party to celebrate the end of exams (the Mash-Up), at which everyone was supposed to wear as little clothing as possible. I did not go. >_> My night out involved a pub in my own town (as opposed to the one where I went to school), white wine spritzers, vodka and orange, and eventually scones.
I'M A GEEK AND I AM VERY PROUD OF IT. I love scones. I shall go and have some for breakfast right now. >_>

I checked Facebook and no-one seems to have posted anything about the Mash-Up yet. I assume they're all still too hungover. HA.

The Cycle of Icon Glee

❶ Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
➋ Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
➌ Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
➍ This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

RONNICUS EXPLODICUS. THIS IS MY ICON! ...That's why it doesn't get used very much. >_> And I suspect this shall confuse a lot of people...

Jethro <3. I also decided to use this one because he looks kind of bored... so it's good for matching with the tone of entries. : D

...This is my favorite icon in all the land. : O Partly because it was made with the absolutely beautiful cover for Charmed Life which makes me wish I could go out and buy it again (which would be stupid cause I have it already in an uglier cover) and partly because I'd been hunting for a Diana Wynne Jones icon for so long. It just seemed so stupid to have icons for all my fandoms except that one...

Hat <3. I love the hat. I needed an icon of it. I actually used a different one that was very similiar for a while, but then I realised I'd completely forgotten who made it, so... I found another one that I could actually sucessfully credit for.
Did I mention that I love the hat? I have two icons of it, look.

As of later today this will be my only Firefly icon. >_> I'm taking out my other one to make room. And keeping this one because it's my 'W.T.F.' icon.

I am pre-emptively an eleventh Doctor fan. : D And of all the icons people made with the really scarce pictures, this was my favorite. Makes him look less emo than all the others did. >_<

Scones

I love baking. I really do. *eats scones*
Even if the recipe for scones was in my mum's ancient notebook, which is falling apart and faded and written in awful handwriting, so for all I knew I'd read it completely wrong. Some bits were actually impossible to make out. >_>
But they seem alright.  >_> *eats more*

Oh Fudge! by ?

@#!$@#!

Me: *hungry*
Dinner: *is M&S ready-meal*
Me: *puts in oven and waits for the reccomended twenty minutes*
M&S ready meal: *cooks*
Me: *opens oven* Hmm, most of the potatos look really under done... only one of them seems to be browning. I shall leave it for a few minutes.
Few minutes:  *pass*
Me: *opens oven*
Potatos: *are all exactly the same except the one that had browned a little, which has now turned black*
Me: CURSE YOU, M&S READY-MEAL!

All was forgiven shortly thereafter when it turned out to be delicious TO THE MAX.
M&S is, like, the most delicious food stop EVER. Even if the M&S 'simply food' near my school bizarrely also sells clothes.

Going Mad by ?

More lolwut, self

AKA  a list of  other odd things I wrote on my notes and later rediscovered when revising.

1. 'Hunger gnaws'. Quite a lot. Or more often just 'hungry'. I guess I had these lessons before lunch.

2. 'THE 21ST CENTURY'S WHEN IT ALL CHANGES. YEATS IS READY.' On the page for The Second Coming by W.B Yeats.

3. 'Sup' and 'hi!' in little speech bubbles coming from two Greek statues. In the background of a photo of the statue I was actually studying.

4. 'JESUS CHRIST IT'S A LION GET IN THE CAR'. Which was completely relevant. Observe! It's the frieze of the Siphnian Treasury at Delphi, made around 525 BC, and it depicts the Gigantomachy - battle of gods and giants.

5. 'He's the gay best friend!', next to a description of one character in The Return of the Native. Because one of the boys in my class made such a comparison. Which is completely illogical, because the character in question is a ladies' man.

6. 'He had a shiny head', next to a picture of Kant. In fairness,he really does.

ANNND NOW I HAVE MY CLASSICAL ART EXAM.

Lolwut, Self

So I was revising today. Which meant I was reading through my philosophy notes from earlier this year. As they are, well, mine, they are covered in doodles.
I turned over one page to find this written with great care and attention in one of the margins:

I JUST
LOST THE GAME
HA!

I can only assume I did it deliberately to make myself lose the game again when revising. >_>

Thank you, past self. You provided some much needed amusement. : DD

Your result for Which fantasy writer are you?...

Ursula K Le Guin (b. 1929)

13 High-Brow, -25 Violent, -3 Experimental and 1 Cynical!

Congratulations! You are High-Brow, Peaceful, Traditional and Cynical! These concepts are defined below.

Ursula Kroeber Le Guin is definitely one of the most celebrated science fiction and fantasy writers of all times. Her most famous fantasy work to date is the Earthsea suite of novels and short stories, in which Le Guin created not only one of the most believable societies in fantasy fiction, but also managed to describe a school for wizards almost three decades before Harry Potter. Although often categorized as written for young adults, these books have entertained and challenged readers of all ages since their publication.

Le Guin is no stranger to literary experiments (see for example Always Coming Home(1985)), but much of her story-telling is quite traditional. In fact, she makes a point of returning to older forms of story-telling, which, at her best, enables her to create something akin to myth. One shouldn't confuse myth with faerytale, though. Nothing is ever simplified in Le Guin's world, as she relentlessly explores ethical problems and the moral choices that her characters must make, as must we all. While being one of those writers who will allow you to escape to imaginary worlds, she is also one who will prompt you to return to your actual life, perhaps a little wiser than you used to be.

You are also a lot like Susan Cooper.

If you want some action, try Michael Moorcock.

If you'd like a challenge, try your exact opposite, C S Lewis.

Your score

This is how to interpret your score: Your attitudes have been measured on four different scales, called 1) High-Brow vs. Low-Brow, 2) Violent vs. Peaceful, 3) Experimental vs. Traditional and 4) Cynical vs. Romantic. Imagine that when you were born, you were in a state of innocence, a tabula rasa who would have scored zero on each scale. Since then, a number of circumstances (including genetical, cultural and environmental factors) have pushed you towards either end of these scales. If you're at 45 or -45 you would be almost entirely cynical, low-brow or whatever. The closer to zero you are, the less extreme your attitude. However, you should always be more of either (eg more romantic than cynical). Please note that even though High-Brow, Violent, Experimental and Cynical have positive numbers (1 through 45) and their opposites negative numbers (-1 through -45), this doesn't mean that either quality is better. All attitudes have their positive and negative sides, as explained below.

High-Brow vs. Low-Brow

You received 13 points, making you more High-Brow than Low-Brow. Being high-browed in this context refers to being more fascinated with the sort of art that critics and scholars tend to favour, rather than the best-selling kind. At their best, high-brows are cultured, able to appreciate the finer nuances of literature and not content with simplifications. At their worst they are, well, snobs.

Violent vs. Peaceful

You received -25 points, making you more Peaceful than Violent. This scale is a measurement of a) if you are tolerant to violence in fiction and b) whether you see violence as a means that can be used to achieve a good end. If you aren't, and you don't, then you are peaceful as defined here. At their best, peaceful people are the ones who encourage dialogue and understanding as a means of solving conflicts. At their worst, they are standing passively by as they or third parties are hurt by less scrupulous individuals.

Experimental vs. Traditional

You received -3 points, making you more Traditional than Experimental. Your position on this scale indicates if you're more likely to seek out the new and unexpected or if you are more comfortable with the familiar, especially in regards to culture. Note that traditional as defined here does not equal conservative, in the political sense. At their best, traditional people don't change winning concepts, favouring storytelling over empty poses. At their worst, they are somewhat narrow-minded.

Cynical vs. Romantic

You received 1 points, making you more Cynical than Romantic. Your position on this scale indicates if you are more likely to be wary, suspicious and skeptical to people around you and the world at large, or if you are more likely to believe in grand schemes, happy endings and the basic goodness of humankind. It is by far the most vaguely defined scale, which is why you'll find the sentence "you are also a lot like x" above. If you feel that your position on this scale is wrong, then you are probably more like author x. At their best, cynical people are able to see through lies and spot crucial flaws in plans and schemes. At their worst, they are overly negative, bringing everybody else down.

Piano Moving

So I just moved a piano by myself. : D
Admittedly not very far - about a foot, I think - BUT STILL.

See, our piano has been moved into the living room by the builders we have in, and today the electrician moved it out from the wall to put a socket behind it then didn't put it back in. So we had a piano sticking out into the living room at an odd angle. And I managed to push it back a bit. With great effort.
Pianos are heavy.

I have also uploaded a bunch of new userpics, deleted some, and finally got round to actually crediting for most of them. >_>

Wut

So my mind does the strangest things.
At present, I can only make dolls on the main computer, because my laptop mouse is too slippery and the latest version of paint doesn't have 10x zoom. And as I've lost my USB stick, the only way I have to transfer dolls at present is by emailing them from one of my two email accounts to the other. No problem.
The strangeness comes when, upon typing some randomness into the email I'd attached the doll to, I sat back and went WHOA MY FUTURE SELF IS GOING TO RECEIVE THIS EMAIL. And went : O O_o.

...

W.T.F. Too much sci-fi.

EXPO OMG

*insert lengthy squee here*

I had the most incredibly awesome day... even if I did have to be up early and it took about three hours to get there. But hey, on the last leg of the journey we got to share a bus with about fifty cosplayers, which was HILARIOUS.

Then we spent FOREVER trying to get our hands on an autograph ticket - four different info desks before we found out they were all gone - and finally ended up buying them from some people in the queue for the panel. : D

And OMG THE PANEL. I can't decide whether or not to try and write about this tomorrow when I'm not half asleep... *yawns*
So apparently Colin Morgan can't wiggle his ears... And Angel Coulby is lovely... and Bradly called Colin 'disturbed'. xD
The best bit, however, was when one of the Merlin cosplayers put her hand up... and then, when the man came round the with microphone, they ALL got up and stood in a line, and said 'so what's your reaction to THIS?'. And OMG LAWL (they loved it, btw).
There were questions I wanted to ask but I never got round to putting my hand up. FAIL. And then I was too shy to talk to them properly at the signing... FAIL again.
But OMG THEY WERE, LIKE, A FOOT AWAY AND THEY SPOKE TO ME AND OMG I HAVE THEIR AUTOGRAPHS.

I was also rather amused to discover that I recognised some of Bradley's mannerisms from the video diaries. And speaking of video diaries... I think he was filming for the seaosn two ones at the panel. OMG OMG.

*insert more squee'ing here*

Apparently Arthur will be shirtless in the first episode of season two. : DD

EDIT: More detailed report and some photos here.

Epic Fail Day

So, yesterday was epic fail. D : Cause I got my period first thing in the morning, and the first day of my period tends to make me really sick... so I spent most of the day with a back ache, and felt so ill that I couldn't eat any lunch.
So then as soon as I started feeling better, I got really, REALLY hungry... but had no money so I couldn't go and buy anything to eat. Then there was hardly any nice food in the house when I got home.
And THEN, a few hours later, I started feeling ill again... and realised that I'd caught the nasty cold-thing that's going round school.

But oh well. I'm at home now, and I hadn't done my RS homework for today yet. Or my classics. I'm missing a timed essay. 8D!

I AM NOW AN EIGHTEEN PERSON

And I have had a great birthday. Even if I did get turned down from Warwick University first thing in the morning. And my new laptop is the wrong colour.

But on the plus side, I got sung to twice in school - once in RS, and once after school, WITH CAKE. It had one very big candle. They didn't have any birthday ones. And MERLIN DVDS. And a very large tin of Quality Street.  And a lovely necklace, which I am wearing.

Is it sad that I'm more excited about never having to log out to get past an adult content notice again than anything else? >_<

(no subject)

So, my costume for the occupation-themed eighteenth birthday party I'm going to on Saturday night either looks like:

a) A mime.
b) A painter.
or
c) A 'French resistance lady'

Well, one person got it right... >_< I think I need paintbrushes.
