Going Mad

\o/

Final Wordcount:

by MS Word's count: 80,250

by NaNoWriMo's count: 80,612

counting other story-type things: 87,280

counting essays: 90,824

See, I got to 75K yesterday, then today I was GOING to write another thousand words, then call it a day for Autumn and work on something else for a while... then I realised that I had two and a half hours left till midnight, and four thousand words till eighty thousand. And I can do 2000 words an hour if I push myself. TOTALLY. DOABLE.

And look! Made it! With half an hour to spare! *goes to read fic* \o/

I didn't realise today the extent to which I have lost mind mind this month. I think me and [info]macey_muse terrified the people at create soc a bit 9the amount of sugar I ingested what with the Christmas party and all didn't help). Also I suspect some of them STILL think that [info]gnimaerd was molesting me. XD

NaNo \o\ /o/ \o\ /o/

Current Wordcount: 72,295

Previously highest daily wordcount: 4159
Current highest daily wordcount: 6000 exactly

Record, consider yourself smashed. This is officially the longest thing I have ever written now. \o/ It's going to be a bit of a monster once it's edited. I'm aiming for 75K for the whole month, which shouldn't be hard. I have the whole weekend for those 3000 words.

Problem is - as much as this is a problem - I just reached the end of the plot. Yes indeed I have finished my second novel. \o/ Which means that those 3000 words will have to go in the middle somewhere, probably in the circus sequence, which is rather lacking. I just wanted to cut ahead to the interactions between my MC and Henry/Henrietta, a fortune-telling cross-dressing dancer, acrobat and trapeize artist who he ends up in bed with...

In anyone is interested, the last line of my novel is thus:

Back and forth, round and round in lazy circles, always ending up right back where it had begun.

Which is some very unsubtle symbolism. \o/

Some Random Musings

Firstly, I had an awesome plot revelation last night whilst walking down the street. I was actually slightly dazed by the awesome of it. It is for next year's NaNoWriMo (ie the third part of what is becoming a trilogy).

Also, Mystery Google just gave me this:

'i hate twilight but i also hate people that use gay as an insult.'

Merlin in the hat

NaNo Musings

So, here are some random happenings:

1. Olsson is like a Disney Princess, except he's a man, and instead of attracting blue birds he attracteds a flock of tiny dragons who want to chew on his hair and steal his hat.

2. I Wrote a scene in which a thirteen-year-old character masturbates (in very vague and minimal detail, don't worry).

3. I just introduced a new character who is a crossdresser. Therefore I got to do this. : D

Also I just decided now (possibly in a fit of sleepiness) to start looking properly in to publication. Like, short story publication. Most likely in a magazine, I haven't had a proper look yet. >_>

Merlin

>_>

It only occured to me a few days ago that there is something odd about the fact that I love putting citites build on or around bridges in my fantasy... and I live in Edinburgh. Huh.

Headboat

Whaaaat whaaaaat where did she come from...

So my character has just arrived in 'London' (sort of), only to be promptly mugged by a knife-wielding young woman who ahs mistaken him for a rich newcomer.

She may well end up upcoming him on his quest somehow.

GET OUT OF MY NOVEL. IT IS NOT THAT KIND OF NOVEL. I DO NOT WANT A WISE-CRACKING SIDEKICK, LEAST OF ALL ONE WHO MAY FORCE HERSELF INTO THE ROLE OF LOVE INTEREST.

;_; I know it should be up to me, but she's too fun to write to waste on one scene.
Desperate Romantics

This is my Happy Icon

First off,

25K! HALFWAY POINT REACHED!

Also, today I finally plucked up the courage to read something out at Create Soc.
By which I mean I got [info]macey_muse to read it because she is a better reader than me and not at all shy.
By which I mean she read it while I stood outside so I couldn't hear.
By which I mean I fled to the other end of the corridor and occupied myself rearranging the spare pins on the noticeboard.
Because I could still hear her if I was too near the door.

CONFIDENCE FAIL. *facepalm*

Merlin in the hat

*shifty eyes*

I feel kind of bad taking books out the university library to research my NaNo when there are probably people who are actually studying Victorian history. But I don't have time to look through it right now, and it might not be here if I leave it...

Bah. I shall put it back my Wednesday. Fair?

(It's called Life in the Victorian Village: The Daily News Survey of 1891, btw.)

...I am going to have to look up Victorian London soon. Even though the capital city in Albon (the country wherein it is set) is quite definitely not London (different name and considerably further North).

Bah.

NaNoWriMo: Done

Final Wordcount: 65,420 Words

I am now going to close the file and leave it for a few days.
*does so*
Huzzah! I have reached my target and am done. : DD

So now I can get on with the following:

1. The multi-parter Merlin fic I wrote one chapter of and then had to stop because of NaNo.

2. Merlin is an Evil Overlord - got two more parts planned out.

3. The rest of my stuff for merlin_the_elf

4. My two seriousface plot bunnies (one angsty-fluff Arthur/Gwen plot bunny, one evil!death!fic plot bunny).

5. The vampire story I started ages ago and have yet to finish.

6. My still untitled novel thing... I have an idea for another draft that may work better than the others.

7. Considering writing this weird Doctor Who fic... that'd be fun to write but wouldn't make any sense to anyone other than me for quite a while.

8. My English coursework (got to choose a question soon).

9. Reading the Aeneid (two books behind >_<).

10. Re-reading The Return of the Native.

11. Re-reading the Odyssey.

12. Re-reading the other stuff I need to re-read for re-takes in January.

13. Christmas shopping.

14. Buying presents for Ellen and Lily. Their party is next weekend. Still have not done this. >_<

Long list... longer than I expected...

NaNoWriMo: Quotes

Current Wordcount: 53,432

Olsson, with regards to magical circle (which are actually called 'painted circles'):

'...he’d assumed they’d have some kind of fancy name, like ‘magic circle of destiny’, or something'

Mistress Wheright, with regards to her own unconventional teaching methods:

“The more you argue, the closer you bring yourself to a horrible fiery death,” she said. '

They're both so much fun to write. XD

NaNoWriMo: Murphy and Olsson

"If I tell you what's been going on," he said. "Will you promise not to tell anyone else?"
"Of course," said Murphy. "You know me. You can tell me anything."

Awww. : ) I wasn't actually going to go here, but... I need more words today, and it's just so nice. I like writing these two.

And just because I'm pretty sure Drew will read this - no, they are not a gay couple.

Twenty-Five Thousand Words

W00T! I'm now five thousand words ahead of my target, so yay!

In other writing news... a whole bunch of evil Merlin death!fic plot bunnies have come out of the hutch and won't leave, even though I keep telling them that I don't have time, and I don't WANT to kill Merlin.
But no. I wrote one fic, and now I feel the need to write another. >_<

NaNoWriMo: On Geography and Religion

Current Wordcount: 16,378
Total Today: 2,608 ^_^

So now it's the weekend, I've been working out some of the geography and that for the world of my NaNo.

The country it's set in is called Albon, and is made up of seven regions, all of which I named, some with more thought than others, whilst making a rough map this afternoon.
Said quickly-thought-up-and-to-be-improved-upon-later names are as followed:

-Central Albon (where the bulk of the story is set)
-Baracia (where Caitrín lived with her aunt)
-Belgia
-Galbria
-South Albon
-Anglia
-Mercia
-Cymria
-Foridia
-Parvia
-Dartia
-East Caledonia
-West Caledonia
-Hebrides
-Greater Hibernia
-Lesser Hibernia

The basic idea is that Britain is still part of mainland Europe, so the land that it covers is England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, part of France, and, uh, the English Channel. xD

On religion; the majority of people are Christian, but there's still a tendency towards an older, pagan religion involving worship of 'The Fates'.
The general belief is that, while the Christian God is the creator, day-to-day life is governed by The Fates, and many people would probably turn to them first in a crisis.
There are actually thirteen Fates, but almost everyone only really believes in twelve. The thirteenth fate governs the other twelve, a role which most people consider the Christian God to take, so believing otherwise is unchristian.  And therefore the symbol of the thirteenth fate is rarely shown, whilst the other twelve are (they're painted on the wall in Lord Glasswater's study).
I did actually draw all thirteen symbols, but I can't find the cable for my camera. >_<

And also, I can now add the following to the list of Olsson's powers:

-Making it rain (though this took so much effort that he could hardly stand afterward.)
